India, Oct. 10 -- A NYPD officer was shot in The Bronx, New York City on Wednesday night, multiple news outlets reported citing law enforcement. The incident happened at the intersection of Paulding Avenue and East Gun Hill Road just before 10:30 p.m. local time, the New York Post reported.

The law enforcement source speaking to the NY Post said that one suspect was taken into custody. Later, a "high ranking officer" with the NYPD confirmed to CBS News that the bullet grazed past the officer's head and he is in a stable condition.

It was not immediately clear what sparked the shooting on Wednesday night. No details on the suspect was released.
