AMRITSAR, April 2 -- The sarpanch of Vein Puin village in Tarn Taran district and five others have been booked for allegedly setting ablaze the houses of two Scheduled Caste (SC) families following a dispute on Wednesday.

The incident occurred on Tuesday night.

According to the complaint, sarpanch Baldev Singh alias Gora, who is brother-in-law of Khadoor Sahib MLA Manjinder Singh Lalpura, along with his associates, allegedly barged into the victims' homes, poured petrol and set their belongings on fire.

Lalpura, on March 30, was acquitted by the Punjab and Haryana high court, along with seven others, in a 2013 case of molestation and assault involving a woman from the Scheduled Caste (SC) community after a compromise was reached betwee...
