India, Oct. 15 -- In a big development just days ahead of Diwali, the Supreme Court gave its nod to the sale and bursting of green crackers in the Delhi-NCR region from October 18 to 21. The order came days after the Delhi government moved the top court seeking a nod to the use of certified green crackers on Diwali.

While pronouncing the order, the court noted that only green crackers certified by the National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) and the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organization (PESO) will be allowed on a trial basis.

The Supreme Court said it will monitor the matter again after three weeks.
