India, Nov. 2 -- The last rites of Rohit Aarrya, who was gunned down by the Mumbai police after he took 19 people hostage, were performed in Pune in the early hours of Saturday. Aarrya, 50, had held 17 children and two adults hostage inside a recording studio in Mumbai's Powai on Thursday. The tense three-hour standoff ended when police rescued all hostages and gunned him down. After the postmortem examination at Mumbai's JJ Hospital, Aarrya's body was brought to Pune in ambulance, where his last rites were performed in the presence of his wife, son, and relatives. According to police, Aarrya had very little contact with his family in recent years.htc
