New Delhi, Aug. 22 -- Prime Minister-led inaugurations and foundation-stone ceremonies for national highway projects will now be subject to additional quality, safety and event-management guidelines, including possible independent audits of major projects and more intensive inspections after opening to traffic, according to a circular issued on Friday by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). This comes after the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in April, recently developed potholes, cracks and a cave-in after intense rain.
