India, Oct. 11 -- Railways' Sharuk Khan produced an impressive performance to win the men's 3,000m steeplechase but narrowly missed Avinash Sable's meet record on the final day of the National Open Athletics Championships at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here on Sunday.

There was a close contest between Sharuk and fellow Railways runner Prince Raj Mishra. Sharuk pushed himself in the final lap to clock 8min, 30.54secs, while Prince was second in 8:31.38secs. Sumit Rathee of ONGC was third in 8:36.17s. The trio recorded personal bests.
