Security tightened in Amritsar ahead of Bluestar anniversary
Amritsar, June 4 -- A multi-layered security blanket of 4,000 police personnel and 11 paramilitary companies has been deployed across Amritsar ahead of the June 6 anniversary of Operation Bluestar. The 1984 military operation was ordered by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to remove armed militants led by Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale from the Golden Temple complex.
Special director general of police, law and order, PK Sinha confirmed that 4,000 police personnel-consisting of 2,000 local officers and 2,000 from other state units-alongside 11 companies of paramilitary forces, including the Border Security Force (BSF), Rapid Action Force (RAF), and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), have been stationed across the city.
