India, Sept. 24 -- Ryan Wesley Routh, 59, who was found lurking with a firearm near President Donald Trump's Florida golf course in 2024, was convicted Tuesday of attempting to assassinate a major presidential candidate. He was also found guilty on four additional charges, including impeding a federal agent and multiple weapons offenses. Routh now faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.

"Today's guilty verdict against would-be Trump assassin Ryan Routh illustrates the Department of Justice's commitment to punishing those who engage in political violence," Pam Bondi said in a statement on X.
