Karnal, Jan. 6 -- Sirsa-based Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, serving a 20-year jail term for raping two of his disciples, walked out of the Sunaria jail in Rohtak on Monday after he was granted a 40-day parole -- the 15th time since his conviction in 2017. The release, however, sparked a political row, with the Opposition questioning the reason behind the move, further drawing a direct contrast with the Supreme Court's refusal to grant bail to activists Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam. Singh's latest parole comes months after he was granted a 40-day parole in August last year. So far, he has spent 366 days of his sentence out of jail.
