India, Oct. 24 -- Police evacuated at least four familiesfrom a four-storey building in Sector 31 on Fridayafter it developed cracks and tilted amid ongoing construction on an adjacent plot, police said.

ACP (east) Anil Kumar said that as a precautionary measure, evacuation notices were issued to families living in three adjacent buildings and the civic authorities were also alerted.

"Barricades have been put up and a police team deployed to prevent people from entering the affected building. Construction on the adjacent plot has also been halted. The building has developed cracks measuring around 1 to 1.5 inches and is unsafe," he said.
