Chandigarh, April 20 -- In a shot in the arm for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government ahead of next year's Punjab assembly elections, governor Gulab Chand Kataria has granted assent to the Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Bill-2026, paving the way for it to become a law.

Chief minister Bhagwant Mann, who is currently abroad on an official tour, shared the development on social media. "Honourable Governor Shri Gulab Chand Kataria Ji has signed the bill passed in the Legislative Assembly against the desecration of Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Now, this bill has become a law.
