Chandigarh, Sept. 6 -- Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) chairman Manoj Tripathi has blamed the Punjab government for worsening the recent flood crisis in the state by failing to carry out timely desilting of rivers and canals and neglecting the strengthening of embankments.
Punjab is grappling with its worst floods in four decades, with devastating effects across the state. Heavy monsoon rains, combined with water releases from Pong, Bhakra and Ranjit Sagar dams has inundated 1,948 villages, impacting over 3,84,000 people, leading to at least 43 deaths and causing massive crop losses of around 1.72 lakh hectares. The floods have destroyed homes, displaced families, and devastated the agricultural sector.
