India, Aug. 24 -- The Pune District and Additional Sessions Court on Friday sentenced a man to ten years' rigorous imprisonment (RI) for attempting to murder a developer by attacking him with an axe during a dispute over collection of donations for a Ganpati festival.

District Judge and Additional Sessions Judge RK Kshirsagar convicted Jeevan Suresh Pawar under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 504 (intentional insult) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), along with provisions of the Arms Act and Maharashtra Police Act. The court imposed a fine of Rs.50,000 under section 307.
