NEW DELHI, March 31 -- A sharp divide marked the debate in the Rajya Sabha on Monday over proposed changes to the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), with Opposition parties accusing the Centre of undermining federalism and service conditions, while the government insisted the Bill would streamline cadre management and strengthen internal security.
Members from the Trinamool Congress, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Samajwadi Party and Aam Aadmi Party mounted a coordinated attack on the legislation, questioning both its intent and timing, and repeatedly flagging the absence of home minister Amit Shah during parts of the discussion.
