India, April 4 -- An earthquake of magnitude 5.9 struck Afghanistan on Friday evening, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS). Sharing the details in a post on X, NCS said that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 150 kilometres. "EQ of M: 5.9, On: 03/04/2026 21:42:57 IST, Lat: 36.398 N, Long: 70.878 E, Depth: 150 Km, Location: Afghanistan," the X post said. Strong tremors were felt in Pakistan's capital Islamabad, Kabul in Afghanistan and India's capital New Delhi. The spokesperson for Kabul's governor said at least eight people are dead.
