India, Sept. 11 -- Two umbrella bodies representing Manipur's insurgent groups under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) pact said on Thursday that no exercise to update or prepare the National Register of Citizens (NRC) must be held in the state before the completion of the Census. The Centre on August 31 deferred the 2027 census in Manipur amid mounting violence and demands by large chunks of the population to update the NRC before conducting the population enumeration exercise. The spokespersons of the Kuki National Organisation (KNO) and United People's Front (UPF) termed the move "unconstitutional" at a press conference in New Delhi.
