GUWAHATI, April 1 -- Will the death of Zubeen Garg be an issue in the Assam elections? The state's chief minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma of the Bharatiya Janata Party, who was quick to label the September 2025 death a murder does not think so, but the state's main opposition, the Congress believes it will. So much so that it is one of the five guarantees in the party's manifesto. Four of the guarantees relate to healthcare, land rights and financial incentives for women and senior citizens.
