NAGPUR, Aug. 5 -- A Class 12 girl was held captive, tortured, and repeatedly sexually assaulted for over 24 hours, allegedly by a 20-year-old college student at a rented apartment in south Nagpur's Dighori area, police said on Wednesday.

Police said the suspect, Nirbhay Pakhare, is the son of two prominent doctors in Thane, 700 km away and was enrolled in an undergraduate business management course.

He first connected with the girl on Instagram last year, where he had created a handle under the fake name "Akash Mehra" in May. Over time, Pakhare built a rapport with her online and obtained her explicit photographs, which he later used to blackmail her into meeting him in person.
