Missing Manipur tribal leader found dead, 5 held
Silchar, Sept. 6 -- The body of a 59-year-old tribal leader involved in peace talks in ethnic violence-hit Manipur has been recovered in Assam, days after he was allegedly kidnapped and murdered by five people linked to a Kuki militant group, police said on Friday.
The body of Nehkam Jomhao was recovered from a forested area in Karbi Anglong district on Thursday, SSP Sanjib Kumar Saikia. The tribal leader had gone missing from his residence in Manja area on August 30.
According to police, Jomhao was abducted and taken to the forested area where he was killed by five cadres of the Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA), which has signed a Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement with the Centre and the Manipur government. The accused were arrested on...
