India, Sept. 18 -- Mike Sweetney, who played for the New York Knicks after being picked by the team as No. 9 overall in the 2003 NBA draft, has died. The former Georgetown Hoops star's wife, India, announced his death. Sweetney was 43 years old.

Sweetney was a high school and college football coach. He was working with the Yeshiva University Men's basketball team and New York's Ramaz School girls' basketball team as head coach. India Sweetney's Facebook post did not mention a cause of death.

"With the heaviest hearts, we are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved Michael," the Facebook post read. "To know Mike Sweetney was love to him. No one loved him more and he loved no one more than his family.
