India, Aug. 12 -- Former NFL sideline reporter Michele Tafoya has won the Republican nomination for Minnesota's open Senate seat in the August 11 primary.
Tafoya, a four-time Emmy Award winner and longtime sports journalist, secured about 51% of the vote with roughly one-fifth of ballots counted, according to the New York Post. Former Navy SEAL Adam Schwarze finished second with 22%, while former professional basketball player Royce White received 9%.
The Republican primary victory puts Tafoya on track for a high-profile general election campaign in November as she seeks to turn a Democratic-held Senate seat red.
