MCD to hold elections for mayor on April 29
New Delhi, April 17 -- The Municipal Council of Delhi (MCD) will hold elections for mayor and deputy mayor, as well as for the three posts open on the standing committee, on April 29, it announced in a notice on Thursday.
The notice, issued by the municipal secretary, said that the elections will be conducted during a regular meeting. Candidates have to file nominations for the posts by 5pm on April 23. These have to be signed by them and by two corporation members - the proposer and the seconder.
Mayors in Delhi follow a five-year rotation of one-year terms, in which the first is reserved for women, second for the general category, third for a reserved category, with the fourth and fifth being for the general category.
