India, July 4 -- Manipur chief minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh is likely to travel to Kuki-dominated Churachandpur on Saturday for the funeral of former MLA Vungazin Valte - the first visit by a Meitei representative to the Kuki heartland since ethnic clashes erupted over three years ago. Valte had been wheelchair-bound since a mob attack in Imphal hours after the first Meitei-Kuki clashes in May 2023 and died in Gurugram on February 21. Kuki-Zo groups have objected to the CM's visit, citing a tense and volatile ground situation. In Delhi, home minister Amit Shah will on Saturday chair a security review against the backdrop of fresh Naga-Kuki violence. htc
