Man poses as Maoist to extort father
Bhubaneswar, Oct. 16 -- A 24-year-old man has been arrested from Kalahandi district of Odisha for allegedly posing as a Maoist in a bid to extort his father of Rs.35 lakh, police officers aware of the details said on Wednesday.
Ankush Agarwal allegedly wrote a letter to his father Dinesh Kumar Agarwal on October 6, claiming to be a Maoist and demanding Rs.35 lakh, police said, adding that he threatened in the letter that Dinesh's "family would be killed if the demand was not met".
"The complainant reported that he had received an extortion letter in the name of Maoists," said Kesinga sub-divisional police officer Sandeep Majhi.
