Mumbai, Oct. 1 -- Maharashtra has made Aadhaar authentication mandatory for the registration of immovable property documents from October 1, with the new rule covering 63 types of registrations, including property sale, purchase, mortgage and partition deeds, a revenue department official said.

Revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said no document would be registered without Aadhaar identification, as part of measures to prevent fraud in property transactions.

Bawankule said the decision was taken following the instructions of chief minister Devendra Fadnavis to curb cheating in property transactions. A notification regarding the decision was published in the official gazette.
