loan app Booked for extortion in BDS student case
Thiruvananthapuram, April 18 -- The Chakkarakkal police in Kerala's Kannur on Friday registered a fresh case against a loan app on charges of extortion and charging exorbitant interest in connection with the suicide of a first-year Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) student at Kannur Medical College in Anjarakandy, officials aware of the matter said.
The FIR has been registered against the app and its officials under Section 308 (extortion) of the BNS, along with provisions of the Kerala Money Lenders Act, 1958, and the Kerala Prohibition of Charging Exorbitant Interest Act, 2012, police said.
The student, a native of Nedumangad, died after sustaining injuries from allegedly jumping from the third floor of the college building on April 10.
