India, March 26 -- On Monday, a vehicle fire following an accident in the Lincoln Tunnel near Manhattan towards New Jersey caused massive traffic delays.

New York City Emergency Management issued an update on the situation asking drivers to seek alternative routes.

The New Jersey Department of Transportation said in an update that the fire broke out at the North Tube of the westbound Lincoln Tunnel. All lanes of the crucial tunnel connecting New Jersey with New York are currently blocked.

As of now, no details on when traffic operations will return to normal has been provided by the authorities. Drivers are reporting that massive traffic congestion has taken place in the tunnel amid the fire.
