The 28-year-old from Amritsar set a Commonwealth Games record in snatch with a 176kg heave and held a comfortable 10kg advantage over the field going into the clean and jerk stage. New Zealand's David Andrew Liti then came into his own, lifting 207kg against Lovepreet's 205. The Indian then increased his lift to 212 for a total of 388, leaving Liti needing 223kg or more to win.
