Srinagar, Aug. 23 -- The Jammu and Kashmir government on Friday decided to take over the management of 215 private schools mostly affiliated with Falah-e-Aam Trust which is part of banned Jamaat-e-Islami.
According to a government order, district deputy commissioners after due verification will nominate fresh managing bodies for the concerned schools in due course. The Union home ministry banned the Jamaat-e-Islami in 2019 for being an "illegal association" under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) for a period of five years.
In February 2024, the ban was extended till 2029. Thousands of students mostly from poor families are enrolled in these schools across Kashmir Valley.
