New Delhi, Oct. 11 -- India on Sunday described the UN human rights' agency's remarks expressing concern at the detention of thousands of protesters in New Delhi as unwarranted and an unacceptable interference in internal affairs, and accused the body of "extreme selectivity" in its response to events in the region.

Police detained more than 2,000 protesters as security forces locked down central parts of the national capital on Saturday to thwart a rally demanding the resignation of India's chief election commissioner over alleged irregularities in voters' rolls.
