India, Aug. 20 -- The Rajya Sabha on Wednesday passed The Indian Institutes of Management (Amendment) Bill, 2025, paving the way for the establishment of a new Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Guwahati, Assam. The bill, cleared by the Lok Sabha a day earlier, designates IIM Guwahati as the country's 22nd IIM under the Indian Institutes of Management Act, 2017, granting it the status of an 'institution of national importance.'
Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan moved the bill for consideration and passing when the Upper House reassembled at 2 pm under the chairmanship of Bhubaneswar Kalita, after repeated adjournments earlier in the day.
