India, Aug. 29 -- The housekeeping staff of Ashoka University went on strike on Thursday morning, staging a protest at Gate 1 of the campus, to demand a hike in wages, annual salary increments, reinstatement of dismissed colleagues, and greater job security.

The strike, which began at 7.15 am, has drawn attention to longstanding grievances among the university's support staff. Workers allege low pay, arbitrary dismissals, and exploitative conditions enforced by third-party contractors.
