Rohtak, Aug. 31 -- The Rajiv Gandhi Thermal Power Plant (RGTPP) at Khedar in Hisar requires nearly eight years to clear 33 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of fly ash currently stored at the plant for utilisation, according to a timeline submitted by the plant before the National Green Tribunal (NGT).

In an additional reply filed with the NGT, accessed by HT, the plant, which currently has around 45 LMT of ash stored in its operational ash dykes, has said that 12 LMT must be retained for the safety of the dyke structures, leaving 33 LMT for lifting or utilisation.

Under the proposed schedule, RGTPP plans to utilise 3 LMT during 2027-28 and 5 LMT annually for the next six years, taking the targeted utilisation of the 33 LMT to March 31, 2034.
