HC restrains FSSAI from cancelling ITC's food biz licence
New Delhi, Aug. 26 -- The Delhi High Court on Tuesday restrained the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) from taking any decision to cancel ITC Ltd's food business licence over its use of the claims "100% Atta", "100% Madhya Pradesh Wheat" and "0% Maida" for Aashirvaad MP Chakki Atta.
A bench of justice Swarana Kanta Sharma issued the direction, observing that the question of whether the high court had territorial jurisdiction to examine ITC's challenge to the notices dated August 10 and August 13 was yet to be decided, but it was closed from August 26 to August 30. It further noted that ITC was required to respond to the FSSAI's August 13 notice by August 28, failing which its licence would be cancelled.
