HC Bar asks chief justice to review one-Saturday-a-month work rule
New Delhi, Oct. 30 -- The Delhi High Court Bar Association (DHCBA) has written to chief justice DK Upadhyay, urging him to reconsider the recent decision requiring each bench of the high court to function on one Saturday every month.
In its October 17 letter, signed by president N Hariharan and secretary Vikram Singh Panwar, the Bar said the move was taken without consulting advocates, causing "genuine hardship and a sense of exclusion."
The decision, taken at a September 22 full court meeting and notified on October 4 by Registrar General Arun Bhardwaj, followed a Supreme Court circular urging High Courts to sit one Saturday a month to reduce case backlogs.
