LUCKNOW, Feb. 13 -- The process of framing rules for the protection of transgender rights in Uttar Pradesh is underway, social welfare minister Asim Arun informed the assembly on the fourth day of the budget session on Thursday.

Replying to Samajwadi Party MLA Sachin Yadav's question on the government's plans for a policy to help transgender persons become self-reliant, the minister said they are "fully sensitive and committed" to safeguarding the rights of the transgender community and integrating them into the mainstream.

The minister said action is in progress to notify the Uttar Pradesh Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Rules, 2026 under the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019.
