New Delhi, Aug. 29 -- An interministerial committee will decide on the next quantum of ethanol to be blended with petrol under India's biofuels programme but the emerging consensus in the panel is that more of the alcohol compound should be generated from grains, rather than sugarcane, a person aware of the development said. The petroleum ministry-led panel is keen on more ethanol being sourced from cereals than sugar, which is prone to price fluctuations and inflation in a sweet-toothed country where sugar is considered a sensitive essential commodity, the person cited above said.
