Govt eases licensing requirements for key connected vehicle devices
New Delhi, June 12 -- The Centre has exempted key connected vehicle communication devices from licensing requirements in a move aimed at accelerating the deployment of intelligent transport systems and enhancing road safety through real-time vehicle-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-everything (V2X) connectivity.
The ministry of communications on Thursday notified the "Use of On Board Unit for Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything Communication in the 5.9 GHz band (Exemption from Licensing Requirements) Rules, 2026", allowing the use, possession, sale and hire of specified communication equipment operating in the 5875-5905 MHz frequency band without the need for individual licences.
