India, Sept. 27 -- The Goa Police has written to the state government requesting that district magistrates be empowered to exercise powers under the National Security Act (NSA) to tackle a series of violent incidents believed to stem from organised crime.

The law allows for the preventive detention of persons considered to be "acting in any manner prejudicial to the defence of India, the relations of India with foreign powers, or the security of India".
