India, Aug. 13 -- Shiromani Akali Dal president and former Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal was attacked near Nanded Sahib gurdwara on Thursday, with reports suggesting that an unidentified person targeted him at the religious site in Maharashtra.

Badal sustained injuries to his hand and has been taken to a hospital for treatment, a video from the incident site showed. He was attacked by a Nihang inside a gurdwara, news agency ANI reported citing Nanded Police.

A viral video showed Badal walking inside a building with a saffron-coloured cloth wrapped around his right hand, following the reported attack.
