India, Sept. 8 -- Former Delhi chief secretary Rakesh Mehta, a 1975-batch IAS officer who was involved in several major reforms in the Capital's civic, transport and power sectors, allegedly died by suicide at his residence in Noida, police said.

Mehta, who was living alone in Noida with his family away in Dehradun, died due to health reasons, cops added.

Mehta held several important posts in the Delhi government and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) during a career that lasted more than three decades. He became chief secretary in 2007 and retired in November 2010.
