NEW DELHI, Sept. 5 -- The Delhi Police on Thursday clarified that only formal police witnesses will be examined through videoconferencing from designated police stations, while material witnesses will continue to appear in person before courts. Formal witnesses in a trial are officers who record or sign an FIR or carry out procedural duties related to lodging it. Material witnesses, by contrast, include investigating officers (IOs) who recover weapons or prepare seizure reports.
