Chennai, Sept. 11 -- The Election Commission of India has recognised Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) as a political party in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, its president and chief minister C Joseph Vijay said on Thursday. The actor-politician said the party's "whistle symbol" had also been recognised as its official symbol. Vijay said TVK, launched on February 2, 2024, was founded on the ideology of "secular social justice". He claimed the party emerged as the single-largest party with 35% vote share, winning 108 seats in the Assembly elections, short of the 118 needed to form the government. TVK later formed an alliance with Congress, VCK and IUML.
