India, Aug. 24 -- The Delhi Traffic Police said it issued 7,298 challans against e-rickshaws and impounded 63 such vehicles for "haphazard" driving during a week-long enforcement drive in the city.

The drive, carried out from August 16-22 across Delhi's congestion-prone locations, aimed to penalise e-rickshaws and other vehicles involved in life-threatening traffic violations.

Joint commissioner of police (traffic) Vijayanta Arya Goyal said the e-rickshaws were impounded for alleged haphazard driving, wrong-side movement, abrupt stopping, and unsafe manoeuvring, which disrupt traffic flow and pose risks to other road users.
