India, July 23 -- Decibel levels have shot up in the capital over the past few days, turning deafening and exceeding permissible limits at several locations as kanwariyas, most with boomboxes mounted on trucks, make their way through for this annual pilgrimage. Despite violations, the Delhi Police have done little more than watch.
Data from the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) shows locations in east Delhi, a Kanwar route, are the worst impacted, with Shahdara recording the highest decibel levels.
