New Delhi, Oct. 8 -- The Delhi Drugs Control Department has directed all cough syrup manufacturers in the Capital to suspend sales until their raw materials and finished products are tested for diethylene glycol (DEG), a toxic industrial solvent, following the deaths of 17 children in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan allegedly linked to a contaminated cough syrup. "Following the death of children due to adulterated cough syrup, namely Coldrif Syrup, which was found to have DEG, we have decided to take measures," said a health official, requesting anonymity.
