India, Aug. 11 -- The National Weather Service (NWS) on Tuesday issued a tornado warning for the Chicago area, advising residents to seek shelter as a series of thunderstorms is anticipated to bring strong winds and heavy rainfall to the region.

The warning encompasses Will, DuPage, Cook, and Lake counties and will remain in effect until mid-morning. Additionally, a severe thunderstorm watch is active until 2 p.m. for northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana.

Due to the storms, departures from O'Hare International Airport have been halted, as announced by the Federal Aviation Administration. This ground stop is currently in place until 11:15 a.m., although it may be prolonged.
