Chandigarh, Aug. 22 -- Serial killer Monu Kumar, already serving a life sentence for the rape and murder of an MBA student, has been sentenced to life imprisonment in another case - the rape and murder of a 40-year-old woman from Maloya in January 2022.

Additional sessions judge Yashika of the fast-track special court (rape & POCSO casea) pronounced the sentence on Friday. The life term, along with a Rs.7.5 lakh fine, was awarded under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code.

Under Section 376-E (punishment for repeat offenders convicted of rape), he was again sentenced to life and fined Rs.50,000. Both sentences will run concurrently. In case of non-payment of the fines, he will undergo an additional six months' imprisonment.
