LUCKNOW, Aug. 9 -- A compliance audit by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) has flagged irregularities in payment of non-practising allowance (NPA) to government doctors in Uttar Pradesh, with hundreds of cases involving payments beyond the prescribed limits between 2018 and 2024, while some received the allowance despite being ineligible.

The findings, part of a report on the finance and revenue departments, were tabled in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly during the monsoon session from August 3 to 5. The report stated that more than 500 government doctors in Uttar Pradesh were paid NPA in excess of the prescribed limits between 2018 and 2024.
