Raipur, June 5 -- The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress were locked in a closely contested battle in elections and bypolls to urban local bodies in Chhattisgarh, with the ruling BJP securing a narrow advantage in results declared on Thursday. The BJP won three of the five Nagar Panchayat chairperson posts and 39 of the 71 councillor seats that went to polls, while the Congress captured two chairperson posts and 30 councillor seats. Independent candidates won two councillor wards, a State Election Commission (SEC) statement said.
